Want to breed

I want to try and breed either gold marbled or koi angelfish or if possible both. As of right now I have a pair of gold angelfish in a 29g that turned out to be two females. So my question is, what type of male angelfish do I need to get this started? I am thinking of using either marbled, black or black lace angelfish. Any suggestions and advice is welcome. Thanks, Alex

hi and welcome to fishlore

the best way to ensure that you get another pair is to buy a proven breeding pair (which, although expensive, may be the best option for you since you'll know the bloodlines, etc), or to buy 6 juveniles of the same size and wait for them to pair off on their own. since your angels have already paired up, you'll probably have a hard time trying to get them to pair off with a different fish.

Hello
So even if I place a couple of proven male angels in the tank my two females wont separate? If I buy group of young angels would it be safe to place them in the same tank with the larger females? Thanks

welcome to fishlore!! are you going to keep your current 2 fems and just add to it? or are you keeping just one and looking for another male?

the females may still not separate, it's not so much that the males have bred before, but that they've bred with a specific female. angels can be pretty picky when it comes to pairing off.

Yes, I want to keep both females. I am going to set up another 29g tank and get a couple of male angels, then place a male and female in one tank and the other pair in the other tank. Or do you think I should place them all in the same tank and let them pair themselves off? Thanks Alex.

Well the females just laid their first batch of eggs so im hoping to find a couple of young males that are just starting to mature. What do you think if I pair them off in separate tanks? Or should just put them all in the same tank and wait to see if they pair themselves?

definitely separate tanks, and not in the tank that there are fry in, someone will probably get hurt pretty badly. your best option with that would be to put them in separate tanks and hope that they pair off, but i'm not sure what kind of chance you have of that working.

Once the fish pair themselves I will separate them into two different tanks. I'm also setting up a few 10 and 20 gallon tanks for the fry and their older siblings. And I only have the two females in my current tank.
