Successful Tiger Barb Breeding

Hello Guys,

I believe I have successfully bred tiger barbs, unfortunately I only see about 6 fry's in my tank...

What it did was put 2 adult barbs in a 6 gallon tank for about 7 days, and then took them both out... after a couple of days, I saw fry's however I only see about 6...

Is this normal? What did I do wrong?

PS: Fry care: How do I take care of them? This is my first. What do I feed them? We don't brine shrimp here in our locality, what we only have are floaters, sinkers and flakes...

Many thanks.

Congrats!Once yolk sac is used up, look at bottom of flake container. You will find enough dusts of flakes which can be perfect for frys. As with any fry so young, need to be fed more often which will lead to leftovers. These leftover can foul water fast killing all the frys in no time. Try performing 10-15% water changes (age the water if possible), if possible vacuum gravel w/o sucking out frys. If setting up breeding tank next time, bare bottom might make this water changes lot easier.

Look for Frozen Baby Brine Shrimps if wishes.
Monitor the water (test for ammonia, nitrite, pH) daily until bit larger and/or understand the water chemistry that take place in fry tank!
As a kid, i have lost whole tankful of frys (not just once) due to lack of testing and/or understanding water chemistry changes in fry tank. They dont seemed to give you much room for errors as they are more sensitive than adults, IMO.

congrats on the fry!

cerianthus has you covered on care, the only other thing i'd add is that you can also feed them with infusoria, here's a link on how to make it

Egg layers and egg scatters frequently eat their eggs almost as soon as they are laid. This could account for only having 6 fry. Congrats on what you do have
