How Could You Tell When A Female Betta Is Ready To Mate?

My female betta has been acting weird as in chasing the male from the other side so I want to know how could you tell when she's ready.

They're in the tank together?

No they are in separate places

Are you planning on breeding them? Unless you have a lot of spare $$ and time, it's generally not recommended.

its not 100% clear whether the fish are in the same tank or in separate tanks next to each other.
You should not keep the male and female in the same tank. the male will hurt the female... he could even kill her. so if they are together please remove her?

regarding your question...

the female will get a white spit on her belle between her bottom fins. that indicates that she if physically ready to spawn. but that does not mean you can now spawn with her. she needs to have eggs... the way you see that is that she will get a round belly - almost as if she is bloated but not quite.

let me see if I can get you something you can read to make it more clear...

Have a close look at my female... look on her belly between her to bottom fins... see that white spot? that is the signal that is is physically ready to spawn.

EvFreak I hope I'm guiding to in the right direction here. what I thought about is a video I posted a few months ago of my bettas spawning. Have a look at that video it will show you what their 'body language' should be.... and probably what to expect when they do spawn.
the thread is called: Betta Spawn

there is also this whole 'bars and stripes' thing - do you know what I'm referring to? its a way to tell if your female is stressed or if she is 'flirting'.
On her body she will either show vertical stripes or horizontal stripes. Horizontal is the good stripes - that indicates that she is inviting the male. The vertical stripes shows that she is stressed.
My female is white so I never get to see her bars... she looks like she has vertical stripes but that is her normal coloring (that never changes) - my female might not be the prime example LOL! but I know one of the formum members posted an excellent pic of bars... I think it was Martinsmommy... I'll see if I can find it for you.
