My lemon swordtail is pregnant, she is showing a pink triangle (she is pink eyed) and fat tummy...

How do you know when the time is right to remove her to another tank to have her babies?

i am a horrible person as i let my guppies breed happily much to the delight of their voracious egg/fry gobbling tankmates but i would like to see if i could raise a few of these swordtails, the fish shop would happily take any i didnt want.

so how do i know when the time is right? i only really recognised she was pregnant around 10 days ago.

do it now! if you wait too long and cause her too much stress, she will abort the fry prematurely. Make sure the breeding tank has enough hiding places for the fry to retreat. I've noticed it takes anywhere between 15 minutes to two days for the female to birth one litter.

wow! i am away on hols next week for 2 weeks so may have to wait for the next time round but i will assume next time that once I can see the eyes on the fry i should put her in a tank....

i was never a fan of swordtails but i really like these.

your welcome. I was that close to success with mine and they had outgrown their breeder net and the size of the other fish's mouths....

... unfortunately not the size of the filter intake pipe


But I have three young adult platies and their almost full grown now!
