In this thread size
you said the Blue Gourami isn't doing well. Why would you want to breed a fish that's ill?

i wouldnt suggest breeding anything right now....you will need a MUCH larger tank just for the gouramis, and then you'll need several other tanks or one very large tank for grow out

Blue paradise Gourami is just another name for Paradise Gourami or Paradise fish which is Macropodus operculus. Common names can be very confusing, especially if a fish has several.
The Blue Gourami is also a dwarf Gourami (Trichogaster trichopterus) I could be wrong but I don't believe these two will cross breed.
If both of them are brightly colored then you have two males. The females of both of these are very drab looking and not for sale very often for that very reason.

My LFS says if the back of the top fin is rounded then it is a female regardless of what color it is. Is that right?

Actually its the tail fin that is rounded not the dorsal
Here is a picture of a male and female Paradise fish (Macropodus operculus)

Seen in person the female is very much more drab than the male.
Which blue Gourami do you have. This one http://www.peteducation.com/article....+1957&aid=2566
