mixing coral sand and aquarium sand? feasible ?i bought coral stones for my fres

i bought coral stones for my fresh water aquarium. My aquarium curently has catfish for my project.

So my question is if coral stone really unsuitable for freshwater? If not, izzit feasible if i mix the coral stone and freshwater stone together so as to prevent the high increase of pH? or is dere any better solutions beside throwing the coral stone aside.

any advice will be much appreciated.

That will raise your ph. I purposely use crushed corals in my cichild tanks for a substrate to raise my ph, it does, to 8.0

not to mention, it will mess w/ the alkilinity of your water (hardness)

Depends on what kind of project.
Not suitable for most of fresh water tropical fish except fish from hard, alkaline water.

I would also be very careful with the coral when keeping catfish, as they can get injured by the rough coral. They really should have smooth gravel or sand.

If it is actually coral sand you have and not coral stones as mentioned in your above post, then I would say yes you can mix the two sands together. I would monitor the PH through tests tho.
Is there any way you can return the coral stones? Or know of some one with a SW tank that can use it and may want to buy it off of you?

If its coral sand it will raise the ph, the agronite sand has right on the bag the "will raise ph". Thats what I use to mix w/ crushed coral in my cichlid tanks.

The coral in the tank will still cause the ph to rise. It doesn't matter if you mix it with sand.

There are a lot of people who will get sand from home depot and lowes for fish tanks (pool filter sand). Any sand at the LFS that is not marine sand or african cichlid sand is good.

I answered this in your other thread. I believe this is part of your project,to find out what works and what doesn't......That's why you were given the assignment, only 1 way to find out.........to try the different kinds and see which works and which doesn't.

You can't cut corners in science projects,or you nullify the results.

Coral sand isnt bad for fresh water just i would recommend to use it for a cichlid tank because it increases water hardness.
