there are fancy guppies that have beautiful long tails on the males and are quite a lovely sight and are very easy to breed. In fact as I do understand it they are hard not to breed.

With any livebearer, if you have a male and female, you automatically have a male and pregnant female and will have a LOT of fry.

Mollies are easy breders you need atleast 1 male and 2 female or more females would be great for mollies if you want a lot of fry's

Platys and guppies are supposed to be the easiest. I personally breed guppies and think they are very easy.

I agree platy and guppies are a no fail fry-a-thon. one male and female toghter and poof you will have fry. There are very beautiful stands of fancy guppies out there to choose from. mine have flame tails and look like they are on fire. they are awesome..

Mollies and Swordtails ain't too shabby either when it comes to reproducing.. the males of those two species that I have are much more into the whole mating game than my male Platies, in fact one of my Mollies is so 'frisky' that he not only does his little dance with* Mollies, Swordtails and Platies, but even the female Hatchetfish in that tank!!.. sheesh!.. and yes, I have a lot more Molly and Swordtail fry than Platy.

Re: What's the best livebearer for breeding?

I have all types of fish but I can't fail to breed platys. At anyone time I usually have 3 females pregnant.

I have 2 female Mollies who often get pregnant but they seem to have their babies at night and I never see any of them.

I now have a tank dedicated to platys and give any excess babies - and there are a lot - to friends and family.

Platy fry are easy to raise as well. One of my platys had her babies last week when I didn't notice and the fry are swimming around quite freely and have grown enormously in one week by comparison to the one time I bred egg layers (tiger barbs) and I had to care for the fry for about 8 weeks before they were big enough to go into the main tank without getting eaten.

Mollie and Swordtails are harder to breed than platies and guppies. mollies need a 1:2 male to female ratio to breed if you do no want to kill you female. platinum or silver mollies are aggressive femanle!
i prefare mollies

All male livebearers are aggressive to female livebearers, not just mollies.
