Can a Molly impregnate a Platy?

I know it's a weird question, but I have a platy (female) and molly (male) who always hang out together. Today I noticed that the male dalmation molly is very interested in fertilizing the female orange platy. Is this weird to anybody? Can it happen? Any ideas?

No fry would result.
The two species are too far apart geneticly.

They can't produce ofspring as far as I know. Mollys and guppys, Guppys and endeler's, (Not 100% sure) endeler's and mollys or platys and swords are the only crossbreeding livebearers.

Those are the commonly kept livebearers that are able to crossbreed, there are many more livebearers that can probably cross that just aren't commonly kept in the hobby.

While they don't produce fry that doesn't stop them from trying to breed, sometimes. A guppy is like a little puppy, it'll try to breed with your leg if you let it.

I might eventually get him a girl Dalmatian molly. I just wasn't sure if I was going to end up with orange Dalmatian Plollies or Malties. Thanks for the help.

I wouldn't mix the sexes unless you have several fry grow out tanks.
