Questions about Molly fry

My first post is to ask a question, yay!

I have a female molly who just had some babies yesterday. At what age will I be able to tell if they are males or females so I can seperate them? I am not exactly interested in breeding. I forgot to mention to the pet store that I wanted a male, so I ended up with a pregnant female for my inattentiveness. Whoops! Thanks for any help.

WELCOME TO FISHLORE!

Typically by 3 months old, you should be able to see the developed gonopodium (modified anal fin) on sexually mature males.

Thanks for the fast reply. And the welcome.

What a relief! I was looking at those fishies thinking, "Oh Lord, they all look like girls!" LOL

What do you guys do with the fish you don't want? Do you find that the LPS is pretty good about taking them? I really want to avoid having more so I am going to try to get the PS to take this mom back.

they might, but if you got them from petsmart or petco, they probaly wont. if you got them from a little mom-and-pop fish/pet store that is most likely the only one of its type, they most certainly will. You could also sell the fry if you wanted too, or keep one or two and watch them grow.
