Young Green & Gold Severum mating!
Well I was sitting at my home-office, sad due a recent lost of a young male red salmon rainbowfish, when I noticed this splashing sounds from the 6footer. Upon inspection, I noticed the two Severums ("Seve" the Green and "Goldie", doing a mating ritual! They engaged in liplocking, in dancing around, I also noticed they cleared an area near a driftwood, and are behaving somehow aggresively towards the young Oscars, who have rendered this side of the tank to them. Around them, however, remains a hot-headed African Cichlid (Kenyi Hybrid) minding his own business -and adjacent territory, as well as a young Convict.
So tonight I'm doing some changes in my schedule, and reading about how to manage the situation. So far I planted dense bundles of Horntworth to "divide" the tank, and the two young Oscars are on their side of the tank as for now. I plan to place a flat rock -or two in the Severum area, and will perform a partial water change tomorrow.
Water conditions as I write are: Temp 26C, pH 7.6, Ammonia 0, Nitrites 0, Nitrates <10ppm. (I'm doing twice a week partial water changes since this is a recently cycled tank).
I'll keep you posted
