Was starting to clean the tank so we could change the gravel in it and the same female with the first 2 batch looked like she was breathing different. She wouldn't open her mouth much and you could see the bottom of her mouth was big. Chased her around a bit and she spit out some fry. Chased her a little more and more came out. Caught her and opened her mouth, guess what, there were more in it. All in all there were about 42 more fry. Son of a .....!!! We don't even have room for all the ones we have now.

Other then splitting up the pair, is there any way to get them to not do this?

Any help is appreciated. We now have almost 100 fry from 4mo old to 1day!

You could put in a tank divider. That way they could still see each other and they would still display nicely but not be able to breed.

You could get a fish that will eat the fry. Angelfish eat fry.

most of them are probably too big for them to eat. I would probably just have to put them in with the adults. The divider I don't think will really work, its only a 46G tank.

They will take them but we were hoping to get something for them. At this point we will have to give them to the LFS. We have about 60 of them in a 20Gal with a 10Gal filter... yes I know... you don't need to beat me too much, lol, then we have the 40 or so new fry in a 2.5Gal.

If you let her spit in the tank, the babies should get eaten. We do it once in awhile...population control. Maybe you should let some of them grow out so you can have more females, who can help eat the babies when you aren't ready for them.

Yea, sometimes fry put us in an overstocked situation.

Allie- wouldn't having more females in there increase the chances of more babies? We are going to have to do that though as far as letting them eat them. Maybe if they didn't get so big as adults it wouldn't be so bad. Anybody looking for an active pair? lol

Where to and I don't know how it would work them them. The male is fairly large (about 8") and probably raise the rate a decent amount.

Good News-
Talked to the owners daughter and she is going to take about 25 of the largest ones to see if they sell and if they do maybe take the rest as they get bigger. Also going to see if any locals are looking.
