Baby Tropheus "Red Rainbows" and Tropheus Annectens Kekese
Am so excited, about 3 months ago my two sholes of Tropheus starting a mating ritual, I knew conditions in the tanks were practically perfect but having read up on these fish I never imagined I could ever get conditions good enough for them to breed.
Anyway They laid eggs that were fertalised by the male and immediately picked up in the mouth of the female. Over the next few weeks it was very amusing watching the female fish with mouthfulls of eggs going up to the food that I was feeding and just headbutting it because she had the eggs in her mouth and would not open it for fear of dropping eggs.
This continued for about 4 weeks then the mouth of the fishes started to get bigger. They also started taking small pices of food. About another three weeks later I came down and my fishes mouths were empty. I spent the next couple of days looking in the tanks but could see no baby fish. then I saw one followed by another followed by another.
In all I have 5 Baby red rainbows and 4 baby annectens. They are about 5 weeks old and about half an inch long, they are very similar colouring on the body to adults but the fins have not coloured up red yet. They are now eating the flake and pellet food that the other fish are eating.
i have bread platies and guppies ect but never expected to manage to breed my Tanganyica cichlids. Very happy with them all !!
