you could use it to rear the tetra fry if you want. otherwise, the tetras would have to go into the other half of the divided tank (if thats what your doing) after they finish spawning

If my mom will let me I might be able to set up a 5g I have...I was planning on eventually getting a betta in the old 5g, but idk. I also have 2 breeder nets but I only use one(to raise my platy fry until they are 1-2 weeks old).

the 5 gallon would be much better for the tetra fry if you're gonna breed them. The breeder nets (so I've found out) are efficient for separating more aggressive fish rather than rearing fry because due to the small space, they will stunt the growth of your fry and may cause premature death.

If your breeder net is your last resort, unfortunately, it'd be the better thing to do. Fry of any species of fish are sensitive to water parameters, and the ammonia will buildup in such a small environment, I know, I've tried.

So, basically, I should hold off on the non livebearers until I find a place for the fry?

I would. It's best to have a place to be able to raise the fry safely and give them room to grow out.
