Well they've paired off. I have 2 males one female...so the other male needs to be moved or sold. Yesterday I noticed the female's belly was round and had a gold hue. I figured it'd be a few days. By the evening they cleaned off the rock and laid the eggs. OMG! I watched them. So cute. They do it just like the angelfish only on flat rocks.
The eggs are still there and little mama is doing a great job. Dad is bigger than mom but they look the same. Dad's fins a longer.

I seem to always catch my fish breeding. Maybe I spend too much time in front of the tanks.

They are so sweet. I never thought that a cichlid could be called that when breeding. They are or least the ones I have are really mildly aggressive. They chase the other male away out no nipping or death chase like with convicts or like with Kribs. Amazing.
Only 5 eggs went white but there is like 100 eggs there.
I must go research them again. I am not sure how long til I get wigglers.

The fry hatch after 3-5 days and are free-swimming several days later. Start feeding with roftiers and baby brine shrimp. The parents may continue their care for the fry for up to six months. So Keyholes bred and take care of he fry like convict do but much nicer to observe.
Unfortunatelyall sites I have checked out say they always eat their first batch once wigglers/free swimming. But they breed again quite quickly afterwards.

Eating the first batch is very common, but then they usually settle down, get the hang of it and become excellent parents!

I see that the eggs are slowly disappearing, some are turning whtie. But they have been with them all of the time. The next time that they are going to be fun little parents to watch.
