birthing tank
I have a 40 g with 2 m 2 f lyre tail silver mollies which I'm hoping will have babies before long. In the mean time I have some ideas for setting up a birthing tank as I assume they will do their breading in the 40 g. From what I've read, basically just put in a bunch of plastic plants for the fry to hide in. My goal is to set up a 10 g next to the main tank and I will use some of the water from the 40 to fill it, I figure it would be less stress on the female to keep the same water. Additionally my plan to transfer the female to the birthing tank would be to use a container, they seem less stressed if you can catch them this way instead of using the bag/net combo. As a side note, the ankle high nylon stockings work great to keep fry out of your filter, also acts as a pre-filter to keep food and large stuff out of your filter.
I've had some experience with breading angle fish and guppies, but I know alot more now than I did then. Should the water in the birthing tank be treated with anything like the Bromothymol Blue like you would use on the angle fish eggs? How about salt?
