I have never tried this, but what I have read.....

Neon tetras are egg scatteres and will eat the eggs, they spawn in large groups. So basically you get a bunch of neon tetras and divide the tank horizontally with some kind of mesh to let the eggs fall through but keep the fish out. What I have seen is it is done in a bare tank. Hope that helps.

some good "beginner Breeder" tetras include one of my favorites, the black tetra. With the right conditions (that aren't difficult to achieve) you can have many young black tetra fry. Be sure to research on proper care for the fry though. Once a little research is done, the rest is extremely easy

if you still want to breed neon tetra i have heard that they ussual only breed in really soft water you can get soft water by boiling water and you can collect rain water from outside. i dont have neon tetra so i dont know if it is hard to breed them but i do have five black skirt tetra and i have tried to breed them 2 times with no sucsess and from my piont of view it is hard but they looked like they were spawning but they just never layed eggs maybe it was because i had no females because i cant tell the difference from the two genders in black skirt tetra
