out of sadness...

Out of sadness comes surprise, joy and a couple of questions. After Orangy's passing, I proceeded to do a partial water change for my other two guppies and as I poured the remaining dirty water down the toilet...what's this?.. ONE TINY LITTLE SWIMMER!! Now I don't know what happened, I combed thru the stones at the bottom and found absolutely no evidence of any others. My new kid is already about a quarter of an inch long or so (including tail), and I can't imagine that I could have missed any others. Do you suppose they were eaten and that only one survived Anyway, at his/her size is it still in any danger and is there anything special that I need to do now? Forgive my ignorance but I've never been a fish dad before. WOW, WOW, WOW!!!!

the parents eat the babies, so yes that was proabbly the only one that didnt get eaten. but dont be suprised if u find others, they are amazing hiders.

to be safe in the tank, they hav to be to big to fit in any of the other fish mouths

He'll probably need food crumbled up small and feed him a small pinch 3 or 4 times a day.

They definitely are good hiders, so it wouldn't hurt to slowly remove everything to carefully search for any others.

Yup yup, one day I was checking out my tank and found one hanging out, I stuck my net in and put it in a little breeder. After an hour or so (maybe more) of looking... I ended up recovering 15 or so of them who managed to escape being eaten. 13 of them are still alive today.

You are right, sometimes out of sadness comes joy. He obviously is a stong little mite.

I found a tiny little fry in my 55g on Christmas Day , didn`t even know I had a pregnant female in there, and don`t know if there was more than that. He just hid out and came through the plants to eat, and is now a pretty little lady than swims the whole tank.

Good luck and enjoy this little miracle.

Val
