Getting the breeder tank

Hello all! I have several questions regarding setting up a breeder (with the intent of some fish becoming feeders) tank. We currently have a 75g with some pretty big aggressive guys and I've talked my hubby into letting me put a breeder tank with some smaller, calmer fish in our study/spare bedroom.

Now at this point I haven't decided on a size for the tank other than limiting the maximum size to 29g. I'll also be putting a smaller fry tank in our living room.

I've already reviewed the Breeding Guppies article and each of the livebearer species profiles and I still have some generalized questions. So I'll begin with the barrage of questions!

1) What is a good size for the breeder tank? I'm thinking ideally either 10 or 20 gallons. What size breeders does everyone here have?
Also, would a 5 gallon fry tank be okay?

2) Is it okay to mix livebearers in a tank? Would I be able to have, say, guppies and platies?

3) Has anyone bred danios and, if so, are they more difficult than the livebearers? I've really got a hankering to adopt some of those flashy little glofish.

Thanks for all your help everyone! The information I get from the site is always so helpful for our 75g that I know the same will be true for a breeder.

Guppies and Platys can be in the same tank, they can't produce fry. A 5g fry tank would be ok, but I'd clean it & change 25-40% of the water every day or 2. The bottom of the fry tank is best left bare with just a few decorations in there for the fry to feel safe. I like to use regular filtration with fish net netting over the intake. I'd go as big as you can for the tank for the adults.

I've not bred danios but I'd have to think any fish isn't as easy as livebearers to breed.
