Dwarf gourami building a bubblenest in quarantine!

Hi!

Well, yesterday I bought 1 male Dwarf gourami and 2 Female cobalt blue Dwarf gouramis for my 47 gallong tank - and I'm quarantining them in my 8 gallon tank.

But, my question is. The male seems to be building a bubblenest! Now, do you think regular and cobalt blues would breed? Because they are isolated - they would have no competitors. What do you thinjk? Would they breed?
I'm really excited by this.

Congratulations!!!

Yes, I believe they will breed. I think the "regular" one you mean is the male(if he has a silvery blue body with orange stripes) and the cobalt blue one is the female. I think they're both dwarf gouramis. And since they're isolated, they will breed in peace. You will find eggs in the nest soon and will hatch for 2-4 days.

Oh and if they already produced eggs in the nest, remove the female because it's the male's job to guard and care for the eggs.

Good luck!

Hi!

Thanks for the advice. Yes, they are male and female. I actually have 2 females - both coblat blue. Well, he's not paying a mass amount of attention to the nest right now - its barely started I think. He's just going up and down the screen. He's building it near an empty Brazilian micro sword pot (Which is floating around because I just dumped it in there the other day because eventually I'm going to try make a carpet with it) which has a few roots and leaves attatched which provide cover.
Trouble is, the filter keeps washing his bubbles away! I've tried pointing the filter at the back wall so there is minimal current. Would they do without filtration for a bit? Is there a way to adjust how much flow the filter puts of? I don't want to do water changes for fear of disturbing his nest even more! I guess once the fry hatch I could do a few big ones. Any help? I realise I've asked a lot of questions!

What we did to help with bubble-nesting with some wild bettas was to have an Azoo palm filter in the back left corner and floated a cut half of a styrofoam bowl in the front right corner, where the current was the least. The male was able to easily build and maintain his nest.

Hi!

I'll try putting some form of 'current-stopper' in it. Do you think he'de be OK without a filter on until he was finished with his nest? The tank uses an UGF so the gravel would be supporting a few bacteria to help.
