lost wiggler to a bloodworm :(

weirdest thing just happened. so today while I was feeding the tired-out krib parents (they laid more eggs today) I dropped two little peices of frozen bloodworm in the wigglers isolation tank... one of the wigglers attacked one of the worms for quite a while, ate a little bit of it I suppose. Then another wiggler went after the same worm, he took one bite then absolutely freaked. He swam spazzticly all around the tank until he finaly rested on his side breathing very hard, a few minutes later he died
I don't even know what could have happened... the rest are fine, I thought maybe it was the kinked tail wiggler but it isn't even. I'm down to 3 little wigglers now. Any theories to what could have happen?

Maybe it was too big for them to swallow and they choked.
Our Multies will carry them around in their mouth, makes them look like their smoking a cigar.

that's what my bf thought too... but he literally nipped it and freaked out instantly, he didnt even budge the thing, it was instant. I was kinda thinking maybe he could have been alergic... such a thing as fish allergies?

I guess it could be. People have severe allergies to bloodworms.

Just wondering, could it have been an alergic reaction?

were they still cold? it could have swallowed a still partially frozen bit.

I don't think that I've heard of a fish allergy to bloodworms, but it sounds like one. Really, really unusual reaction. I can't think of anything else that could have caused that other than somehow, some part of the worm or ice got 'caught' and he panicked when he suddenly couldn't breathe.

Sure the fish could be allergic, it is obviously a very rare occurance since the bloodworm food sellers make a lot of money on the product, but sure. All it takes is a single 1/1,000,000,000,000 of their genetics being flawed to have an allergy, probably less than that.

(There are humans allergic to water, so anything is possible. )

Allergy, or perhaps a frozen bit. It may have just been "burned" by the ice (the young of nearly every species are very tender) and started swimming around crazily. It may have injured itself in the frenzy. It wouldn't be the first time that's happened with a young animal.

I could understand that, except it wasn't frozen! well I'm pretty sure it wasn't. strange... maybe he was so overwhelmed by the new taste that he has a mini heart-attack? poor guy, and the first wiggler comlpetely had his way with it first before the other one even touched it. It is a mystery...
