if you can buy another fish tank like a 10 gal and have it set up and put her in there. or buy a net breeder (plastic one) and put her in it and she will have the fish and spit them out in the breeder tank the babys will sink down to the bottem so she cant eat them. then from there feed her a little so she gets her strenth back. if you can do the 10 gal thing that would best with a net breeder then you and just put her in the 10 gal and the babys in the breeder in the 10 gal. for the babys go out and buy fish food thats call first bites by hiarki (somthing like that sorry for the spelling) its vary fine ground up food that sinks vary well. from there thats all you have to do just DO NOT PUT ANY CHEMS IN THE TANK i had some in my main tank and put it with the babys and they died . For the mom keep her in the 10 gal for a week or so and feed her then put her in the main tank. if you cant do the 10 gal just keep them in a net breeder tank. if you set up a 10 gal tank you wont need gravel. buy a wisper filter and there is a sponge you can get to put over the end of it in a frog/turtle section its round this prevents the babys from being sucked up the filter once they are a few weeks old and you put them in the 10 gal alone with out the mom. best of luck pm me if you have any other questions.

Trpimp...i sent a pm, but don't know if it went through. can you tell me why only one message is allowed in the inbox and/or sent msg folder? it's empty now.

anyway, i have a 10 g and a sponge filter, but do i also need the net breeder?

thanks again!

Lake Malawi African cichlids usually hold for 21 days then spit. We usually have a 10g set up to put mom & fry in during the last week. Just remember to keep an eye on her...she WILL eat her babies once she spits them.. Rift lake cichlids aren't known for their parenting skills. Just keep her well fed for a few days until she looks stronger...then put her back in the main tank.

You can only hold one in your inbox because of your post numbers. There is a certain quota, I think 50 maybe 100, that you have to reach before you can hole more than one in your inbox and save box. The reason is because people were joining and spamming with pictures of matura nature(if you catch my drift) and the mods decided to make a quote to prevent that.

no you dont need a net breeder but it helps once you have her in there and she spits out the babys it gives them a chance to get some food b/c they just go to the bottem of tank and arnt that strong of swimmers yet. also you can put the mom in the main tank and you can feed her in there for like 7-10 days and then once shes kinda back to strength. it all will work just thats how i did it with my fish i have two net breeder tanks so if she gets prego 2 times right away it happened once before.
