Easy Breeding

What would be an easy fish to care for and easy to breed for a couple of 10G tanks? Freshwater or brackish will do.

I should have kept my eyes closed when I went to the fish store lol. Now I've been talking to Tom in trying to find the right fish for me.

I'd like a fish that is easy to care for. A fish that is easy to breed. A fish that sells easy. My idea is to breed them for credit with my LFS. Tom was talking about killifish. I saw one that goes for $60. I would imagine this would make it more difficult to sell, but, I could always just sell them for cheaper depending on the amount of fry they have. So lots of fry, easy to care for, easy to breed, not expensive but not extremely cheap, that fits in a ten gallon... anything come to mind?

Fairly hard to find, and pairs sell for ridiculous amounts. It might even be profitable to take a school of juveniles and pair them up.

Well, sadly unless your a Breeder and put lots an' lots of time into your fish then it's hard to make any money :/ Although if you want something that's easy to breed and can live in a 10g then I'd go with a livebearer such as Fancy guppies I'd buy a nicely colored fancy guppy XD Neways' if you don't want to breed livebearers I guess you could also try Bettas :/ But you need to buy lots an' lots o' jars for the males once they get older so theres more money going out then in.

what fish sell best in your local market? unfortunately, the easier fish to breed tend to be cheaper and less profitable. we have red fancy guppies, but more because we wanted them than thinking we'll make much even if they are breeder-quality stock and pretty hearty gups. The Geissen gups might yield better prices, but we'll see.

i'm not sure any Cichlids would fit in a 10g.. Bettas would take way too much space, money, etc and not be at all what you're looking for. The dwarf plecos are harder to breed and can take years to reach breeding age, plus be a lot of money up front. hmmm..

maybe killifish is the best option..

I just keep thinking of what a friend I used to have reminded me so constantly. He is a MAJOR Beatles fan and often quoted one of them. Talking about work, he said if you found something you like to do, you won't have to work a day in your life. That would be very nice. I guess I'm just dreaming, but, it would be nice.

lol.. and i think maybe 3% of the population gets to do that. if you never want to work a day in your life, give up your soul and become a politician.

yea, but you get paid tons of money, can vote yourself raises all the time, get everything like health care, etc for free, plus all the bribes, kickbacks, hookers and drugs that you could ask for.. hey, that could be the classified ad for a politician.

Air pump or Pump/Powerhead combo?

On 10G tank for killifish, what would be best? Air pump alone to provide water movement or powerhead with 40gph output with air pump connected? My main concerns is to not have overkill in current and kill the killi. What kind of water movement do they require?

mollies are excellent fish
their babies are large so they wont be eaten easily
they grow rapidly and they are hardy and cheap
we had two female yellows they had about fifty fry that reached adulthood
if they were sold at the price of the adults wed get a profit of $144
we didnt sell them and now the next generation is beginning

If somebody hasn't said it yet, convict cichlids breed quite easily and they just need a 20 gallon to breed.

lol hate to break it to you, but id start out with livebearers... breeding others would be just like saltwater...getting the conditions right and keeping them right for breeding, not to mention they are less hardy when they are born....

Eh, I'm starting with Bettas. By the time I'm used to them I might be OK with breeding them. I'm hoping a year or so. At the moment though, my main concern is making them feel at home... sigh!

And a "Typical Aaron Story" happens again! So TODAY is the day I'm going to order everything on-line. I wake up and the first thing I think is: "My fishies! Time to order for my fishies!" So, to make sure I don't shoot myself on the foot, I go to my bank account to check for funds... Guess what... I didn't get paid!!! GRRR

Supposedly we don't get paid until Friday night (direct deposit) BULL@#&*! I recently transferred positions at work. First, they mess up with my sign-on's at work. They didn't have to mess with them, I moved offices WITHIN the same department! Then my clock-in badge didn't work. I bet you they messed with my payroll files too! GRRRR!

Will I ever be able to get to my fishies!?!?!?!

Wait, you don't have fish yet? Well I can't talk to you anymore. Just kidding, I'm very glad you are doing lots of research before you do get the fish.
