Keyholes!

Well, my keyhole cichlids finally decided to breed. She laid her eggs right out in the open on a false rock decoration. The mama is guarding her eggs very well, while the male seems oblivious. I don't think I'll be able to rear this batch, as I don't have a tank for them or the parents to go in right now. If they make it, awesome, but I honestly doubt they will. Two of the eggs are cloudy(fungus? they're not furry), while the rest are all a medium tan, opaque. Luckily, they are laid right next to a large patch of java moss, so that should feed them after they hatch.

Any tips?

the white stuff means there not fertilised and it could spread to the other eggs

Well, I guess they ate the eggs. Or maybe.......They're gone, and my wife said she thought it looked like they were eating them, but she figured they were just re-arranging. Oh well, we'll see if they try again sometime.

Are you sure the male fertilized the eggs, since you say he is oblivious?

Keyholes often eat their first spawn, but should spawn again in a few days.

Could you put the rock they used into a more secluded part of the tank?

The babies will need to be fed on something like baby brine shrimp. You can use a syringe or turkey baster for this purpose!

Keyholes are wonderful parents and take great care of their babies.

The producing pair here ate their first 5 spawns.
Now, we do not have that problem.

Yes, I'm sure the male was involved, as I saw him take a few turns fanning the eggs. I'm sure they just did what was typical and ate their eggs. I'll just be patient and keep feeding them well and see what happens.
