unexpected molly fry!!!

i came back to my apartment after a weekend away and i now have about 10 molly fry! yay!... just some questions

1. the mother has gotten ick after the birthing... do the fry probably have the ick as well?

2. could i treat them using the same medicine i use for the larger fish or are they too unstable at this point?

3. Should i just try raising the temperature and avoiding the meds? if so what heater for a small 2 gallon tank.

4. anyone want a molly in the tallahassee area?

the best thing would be to treat them all for ick. Raising the temp to 82 and keeping it at least at 82 for 2 weeks is the treatment. I'm not sure of a heater for a 2 gallon tank, but you may want to find a 5 gallon tank if you can.. that or a 2.5g minibow tank kit depending on what filter you have now and the budget for fish. do you have just the 1 female adult?

meds aren't necessary for treating ick, but if you wanted to use something, this product is safe for them: http://www.drsfostersmith.com/Produc...&N=2004+113016

let me ask you this... The heater is on a thermostat, so would it only run if the temperature is low? if so i think a 5 gallon heater would work... just very quickly. And i really dont have a huge budget(college student) so going out to buy a new tank would be out of the question .

I have an adult dalmation lyretail molly that i believe is a male. but i doubt he is the father considering we have had her for only about a week or so.

back on the ick issue... i put the fry in the tank that i had recently treated for ick. Is that going to make a difference or should i still work on getting a heater.

Tetra sells a 2-15 gallon heater, im going to try to get that if i can find it.

1. Raise the temperature all at once( from where it is now to 82 in one sitting)

2. Raise the temperature a little bit at a time (75 to 78... 78 to 82 )

Which would be better for the fry?

congrats on the fry, sorry bout the ick, it would be best to slowly increase the temp over a 4 day period because of fear of putting the fry into shock

it's safe to raise the water temp by 1 degree per hour, so i would just keep turning the heater up a little at a time until the temp is at least 82.
