crazy breeding fish!

Okay I'm pretty new at this and I was really happy when my guppies breed. I put her in a breeding tank with several zebra danios as I was told it would keep her calmer and have healthier babies. I was so sad when her and 3 danios died. I figured the stress from the pregnacy brought out a disease in her and she gave it to the danios.
Then a couple days later I saw babies swimming in the tank! I was happy thinking that she had the babies and then died. Now a couple days later I notice that the biggest one looks exactly like a zebra danio! I am really surprised, could the danios have breed when in with the guppy and all the babies are danios, or could there be zebra danios and guppy babies and if so how do I tell the little ones apart?

welcome to FishLore

do you have any pics that you could attach to a post? Were those 3 Danios male & females?

I'm pretty sure Danios and Gups don't interbreed though.

guppy or danio?

Hi I'm pretty new to this so all questions are serious, even the stupid ones. So...

I was so happy when my guppy appeared bred. At the time I was switching tanks and I decided to let the bred guppy and a small school of danios in the tank to give the fry protection and the tank cycled. Then all the fish that were in the tank with the guppy died. I however saw babies swimmin in the tank a few days later and thought that the female had her babies and then died. Now I noticed that the biggest of the babies lookes alot like that of a zebra danio. Is it possible that the danio bred and I didnt notice. Could it be possible that there are both guppy and danio babies in the tank? Can they both live without botherin the other?

Without pictures it is hard to make speculations, however, guppy fry develop rather quickly and within a month you should be able to tell which are or are not guppy fry. If you could post a picture perhaps that may help. I noticed with my Danio Kerri, when they bred their babies were half the size of first day guppy fry, but I've not bred Zebra Danio yet, so I am unsure on that.
