feeding the zebra danio babies

Hi, My Zebra Danios have layed eggs and they are now hatching and the babies are now starting to swim about happily in their own tank. I am still giving them liquifry for food, when can I switch to flaked food which is ground down? Can anyone offer me any advice please?
Thanks Pam

Can start right away, they will either chew what they can or wait for it to get real real real mushy/nearly dissolved then eat it.

you can put fish flakes, pellets, etc in a sandwich bag and use a rolling pin to crush it to powder. crushed boiled egg yolks are good too, albeit a bit messy.. crushed peas (frozen ones, thawed and peeled then crushed in the water between your fingers) can be a treat for them too along with the bbs.

Re: feeding the zebra danio babies

I did the fish food in a bad thing, you can crush it with your fingers and its nice and small. Great tip...

One thing I was wondering, I just got some of these fishies... How do you tell male/female? Anyone have photo's so I can tell?

Thanks for all the help again

Re: feeding the zebra danio babies

Sorry to sound a bit thick, but what does bbs mean?

I have 5 Zebra Danio's. The male Zebra's are a lot thinner and streamline than the females. I wasn't sure to start with but then one of mine got really fat so I assumed it was female. I put them in a seperate tank for a few days, I got up one morning and she was slightly thinner. I looked at the bottom of the tank underneath the marbles that I'd placed at the bottom and there were loads of little clear eggs. They are now swimming happily about. Bless em.

Re: feeding the zebra danio babies

How did you prepare for the egg laying? I'm going to pick up small tank (no bigger than 5 gallons, already told myself no more tanks, their piling up in my room) with marbles and plants in it. Do I put the male in with the female too? I believe up to 3 of them might be pregnant, so would I put all the danio's in? Do they need to be with their mate? It'd be awfully crowded with 6 danio's in small tank, whats best way I should go about this?

Re: feeding the zebra danio babies

I put all 5 of mine in the 5 gallon tank. 2 were fat, 1 especially and the other 3 are quite streamlined, so I assumed they were male. I waited a couple of days and the eggs came so I got all the adults out and put them back into the main tank. I did a water change on the main tank and used some of that water to put into the smaller tank to get the cycle going a lot quicker and it worked fortunately.
