Baby platies born dead................why?

Hi, I am quite new to this so please bear with me. Last night my platie had babies while I was out and they are all dead. Any ideas on why? I had the mum on her own in a small tank as she seemed to get stressed in the breeding trap. Today she just stay still in one spot.........what did I do wrong?

You did nothing wrong, they are better off in isolations rather than the breeding trap. It was probably premature birth. Sounds like you did everything correctly, just the smaller odd of premature birth reared its head, next time, odds are it will turn it right.

Best of luck.

[Thanks for that, I feel better now. You don't know how to get rid of green water do you? Any advice would be most welcome. Thanks again/quote]

Re: Baby platies born dead................why?

sounds like she had a stressful birthing so she's probably resting to recover, but hopefully she's eating. as soon as you see the little eyes in her belly (if her colouring allows) move her to the isolation tank and keep it warm and clean for her. with as many hiding spots as possible. either a sponge filter or a small HOB filter with netting over the filter intake would be good for the isolation tank.

what do you mean by green water?

the green might be from some fake plants or something...just do some water changes and it should go away
