feeding fry

is taking fish flakes and rubing them between my fingers the best way to make my food fine enough for my guppy fry

Re: feeding fry

I find that method to work well as long as they are 4-5 days old or older. Before that I tend to still rub some up that fine, so they can atleast attempt to graze on it, but I also let them feed on the tank fauna (algae). In order for there to be plenty of fauna I do not clean rocks, caves, pots, etc that I have in the tanks, as well as only cleaning the front glass. (the front glass being the side you use to look into the tank.) Best of luck with your guppy fry!

Re: feeding fry

for our fry, we put flakes and/or other food into a sandwich bag & crush it to powder with a rolling pin. the powder can be stored in a little rubbermaid container.

This worked great! When I tried breaking flakes/brine shrimp/mosquito larvae in my hand they were still too big and the fry weren't going for them much. Once crushed into powder they swarm the top of tank during feeding times.

Re: feeding fry

Yes, I agree too. I've had so much help and advice these last few weeks with all my problems. I'm glad to know there are other "starters" out there like me.

And yes, I too squashed my flake food with a rolling pin to make it finer and I started feeding them smaller amounts more times a day and I think they are used to it now. They swim to the top when I open the door to the tank. I have been doing this for a week but another board I read said to only do this for about a week and then drop it down some so I may start that next week. They are still so small though!!

Re: feeding fry

i think it just depends on the fry when they'll be ready for tiny crumbled flakes.
