My molly was pregnant, and looked about ready to pop, but no fry???

Ok, starter fish person here. Well, I bought Mollies and ended up getting 1 male and 3 females. (Had no idea that they were big time breeders!) I don't really plan to breed, but it turnout that one of the Mollies got pregnant (or so I thought) before I removed the male. (After finding out about the mass breeding that they do.) Well, I figured, I have a large tank (75 gal) and not many fish in it yet, so, why not. I bought a breeder box, and waited until she was a big as a house, and put her in the breeder box. (that was last night) Now, today, she is ****ED OFF and no longer as big as a house, but no fry? What just happened??

yes, they can. those breeder boxes might work for some but i've just heard story after story about them being no good. the netting ones are a little better but you want to keep the momma as stress-free as possible so we put lots of plants together in a corner of the tank and let her drop fry there. with the glass marble substrata we got a good percentage of them.

She definitely aborted the pregnancy if no longer as big and did not drop fry. Breeder boxes are inadequate for mollies; they are way too big for them. I had my platy in the breeder box for night, felt horrible and went out and got a tank divider. She was happier and shortly gave birth (just 7 hours ago). But I will only suggest tank divider if unwilling to buy small tank for the fry. Their own tank is the best choice; my fry started getting through the divider tonight; so made sure to pick up 5 gallon tank quick for them. It is important to keep her stress free during pregnancy; most of the time if highly stressed (caused by breeder box for example) she will abort the pregnancy, and if she does drop fry, theres good chance of her dying shortly after due to the stress. Make sure she has plenty of room and she should be fine.

Also increasing the temperature will move the pregnancy along quicker.
