Is this fish pregnant? Please help!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

How can you tell if a fish is pregnant? A glofish zebra danio to be specific.

Re: Pregnant Fish

Since they are egg scatters the female will fill with eggs and get very fat in the stomach area.

Re: Pregnant Fish

Does this fish look pregnant or just fat? I'm sorry the picture isn't that great.

Thanks.

Re: Is this fish pregnant?

Is it a fluorescent green Zebra Danio? Never seen any "naturally" flurescent green Zebra Danios. I don't want to say it, but is it a painted fish?

Re: Is this fish pregnant?

Sorry can't really tell
Their not painted. Their DNA has been altered with jellyfish DNA.

It doesn't bother the fish at all.

The Jellyfish DNA is injected into the eggs and it combines with the fishes DNA as it developes.
Don't know whether its good or not. The original Danios were said to be sterile. I just read that these breed true so I guess their not sterile any more

Re: Is this fish pregnant? Please help

Yeah the current glow danios breed true and the fry continue with the glo. It is a genetic alteration, not a paint.

And yes, that is a female with eggs. You can do a google seach for danio breeding for sites talking about how they spawn. :-)

Re: Is this fish pregnant? Please help!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The DNA injection was originally used to detect improper water; the color would glow certain colors when water was unsuitable. The genetically engineered glo fish seem to live just as well and long as the regular zebra danios. I have 5 zebra danios and 4 glo fish; all act about the same, eat about the same, and are active about the same. The DNA injection has not seemed to alter the fish's personality or health.
