Freshwater/Brackish Mangrove?

Oh the decisions! The SW reef idea has now been altered, and now Im stuck being a brackish puffer tank, or freshwater GBR/community tank.

Im wondering if i could use the red mangrove plant to make a mangrove environment, in either the puffer or GBR choice.
Here's a link to them.

Ive found out that apparently they can be placed in FW, SW, or brackish tank and do fine. is that true? Would it be a good idea? How would I go about caring for them?
Thanks.

Link Butterfly posted said that brackish/salt is preferred, but freshwater is tolerated, so yeah, you should be able to use them.
The big thing is that they do need a decent amount of light, and they will eventually outgrow your tank (though it takes a long time, from what I've heard... they're slow growers).
If I ever lived in the Southeast, I'd start a non-profit organization that collected large mangroves from aquarists and planted them, particularly along the swampy coasts that are getting destroyed by the channels we have cut through the swamps.

I have heard (but have no experience to back it up) that mangroves will break your tank if you're not careful, so you should definitely keep an eye on it so it doesn't grow too big.
I think it would be awesome to do a mangrove tank for some figure 8s

I know thats exactly what I was thinking!
I would just love to watch f8s dart through the mangrove roots and sand!
