ok, I have a 10 gallon tank with a Green Spotted Puffer and a Dwarf Puffer, and also a gold gourami that soon shall be moved. anyway, I read that puffers are more accustomed to brackish water. ok, no problem, my question is how do i get the water to where it should be without moving the puffers into my other tank? im afraid if i move them to my other tank they will damage/kill/ stress out my other fish. help!?

also, when putting fresh veggies into my tank for my plecos and otto, what veggies should i use and how do i prepare/serve them?

i'm new to brackish water too, and i've never owned livebarers. although i'm planning on getting some platies to go in the 10 gal with my crab. but as far as veggies go, ive tried a few things in my 55 gal shark tank (containing: 2 bala sharks, 1 red tail shark, and a common pleco. i also have 5 tiger barbs in another tank). so far i've had the most luck with a slice of cucumber and a leaf of lettuce. my red tail (very much like your rainbow shark) went nuts for the lettuce, and so did the barbs. i've been told to stay away from citrus fruits or anything acidic or messy. other than that i think you can try just about anything. just dont put a pepper or anything obviously harmful like that. if you buy frozen peas, those are supposed to be benificial and can help them overcome a swim blatter disease.

The GSP will have to go into full marine when full grown. The Dwarf Puffer will go into fresh water if i'm not mistaken. I don't know what type of dwarf puffer you have. And when you make a brackish tank you use marine salt not the freshwater salt.

True dwarf puffers (the ones that stay under 2") are freshwater fish.

GSPs are low-saline freshwater fish in nature. They do not live in marine habitats, at all.

In addition to the articles listed here, the two wikipedia entries also list a number of excellent scholastic sources on the subject.
The only article that I found that claims that adult puffers inhabit marine habitats is the one written by Pufferpunk, and I had to specifically look her up. She does not cover their range in the wild, whereas many of the above sources do, and all of them list estuaries, streams, and floodplains, which all have the possibility of being brackish, but not fully saltwater.

Yup. I've been there. That's the only article that I've found that supports the "GSPs are true marine fish" theory.

I have 2 GSPs, and they certainly do much better when they are in brackish water than in freshwater.

Brackish water, I have been hearing about them... I have heard that they need I believe aquarium salt fresh water or salt. Not sure, but they can stay in pure salt water when they are older, so then I am guessing that they can withstand the salinity levels in salt water when they are older.

Archer fishes could go with Brackish Puffers.

I was thinking that if you don't have much success you can switch to South American Puffers. They are pure freshwater, and die in salt water

So the puffers are just like the brackish ones, but they just the same like the Brackish ones.
