Blackworm or Bloodworm for violet goby.

Hello,

I'm not sure whether I need to buy blackworms or bloodworms or what the nutritional difference are. I've read mixed info online about violet goby diet requirements (some say blood, some say black), so I'm hoping someone who understands the nutritional difference can give me advice.

I already own a big pack of frozen bloodworms (for my ADF), but I don't know if I need blackworms, too. Is just bloodworms a balanced diet?

Also, will it be okay if my fish --mollies, guppies, & platies -- sneak some of the worms (black or blood) when it comes time to try and feed the goby?

Thank you!

If you have read mixed recommendations I will suggest that you are reading the other keepers prefrences. Either are good foods and you still should give them a variety of food.....neither bloodworms or blackworms are a total healthy diet.....would you eat puffed rice cereal for every meal, forever.....yuck!!!

If you are using freeze dried foods, always soak in water for a while first to reconstitute it.

Gobies are a bit of scavengers (omnivorous) too so should be happy grazing on all types of food.

The worms are also fine for molly's etc, but they also like some green foods too.

Variety in diet is most important. Fish will learn to eat what ever you offer.
example: when feeding worms put in a few flakes or pellets so they can get a taste for them. I also soak the pellets first too. If you have baby fish mash a few pellets for them also.

hehehhehe Well, I am a gluten-free vegetarian, so yeah, that pretty much is all I can eat. LOL Thanks for your explanation of the mixed reviews - that makes sense now.

I use Frozen & I thaw them in a bit of tank water in a cup before I feed my ADF. I read that freeze dried can cause problems.

Ah, great reminder! I read this, but then forgot and never got greenie food.

Thanks for all the great advice. I'm headed out to the store right now!
