Indian Mudskipper Questions

Alright, I'm thinking about getting a mudskipper or 2 and putting them into a 20 gallon species only tank. http://www.petfish.net/articles/pix/arts3/skippers2.jpg

Here's what I know about them:

-They need to be able to get up on land, I will achieve this by filling the tank halfway and providing lots of high driftwood and rock formations.
-They are brackish water fish
-They eat live insects and feeder fish

What I need to know:

How much salt is required?
How "hardy" are they?
Preferred water parameters.
Any advice at all.

(Sorry in advance if someone already has a thread going about them, I looked and couldn't find one.)

Also, if you have pictures of how a tank is set up with them in it, that would be great so I can borrow some ideas.

I can help you answer how much salt you need! It depends on how big your tank is and what kind of salt you're putting.

The easiest way to make the brackish requirements is mix the water for saltwater (s.g. 1.025) in a seperate container, then add 2/3 freshwater. (1 gallon saltwater mix to 2/3 freshwater) in 30 gallons you would have 10 gallons salt water and 20 gallons freshwater.

I would not keep them in a 20 gallon,it's way too small, and they will turn on each other, and the more dominat will kill the rest. They are very territorial. They are also very social if given enough space. You need a wider than deep aquarium, with about a foot of water. They don't require much swimming space, but require more room for movement on land. They have very big appetites, and constantly scavenge for food. worms, grubs, crickets and other small fish/shrimp is a good mix.

PH 8.3 is good
ammonia 00
nitrites 00
nitrates lower the better
muddy water,muddy land

good land is essential; a good mix of stones, driftwood, muddy clay sand/peat,moss is ideal. Not a lot of light, the heat will dry them out fast, but they need humid climates. A small lamp for heat, with a small fan will give them a good mix. Don't think of them so much as fish, but as amphibians like frogs. They spend a lot more time out of water than in it,so youll have more of a terrarium set up than an aquarium. Mixing them in an aquarium, with other fish isn't a good idea, but it has been done. They tend to eat all fish they can catch,as well as frogs, invertibrates, etc. A species specific theme would be better.

View my profile and get a good idea,I have 3. 1 is 6in and 2 are 9in. I will post pics as soon as I can get my issues solved.
