What is going on??

I have a Blue Gourami (Golden) and his behaviour has changed a little of late. He would always have a little scrap with my Dwarf, but since the dwarf passed away, he has been very lethargic, choosing a few favourite spots, and just sitting still.
More recently, I noticed a red-brown spiky looking bulge at his anus, like a tiny rambutan. Not sure what it was. I was there sometimes, and sometimes not.
Last night I was watching my fish for a while, and noticed what to me was very strange behaviour.
The Gourami was going vertical (Like my headstander), and my Rummy Nose Tetra, were picking at his anus...purposefully, and the Gourami appreciated it. In fact whenever the Rummy Nose swam behind him he would immediately assume this vertical position! It was like a symbiotic relationship. The Rummy nose would not eat the poo, but appeared to help it out. It is not just one of the Rummy's, both do it. Is the Gourami constipated? And how do the Rummy Nose know to help him out? Bizzarre.
Has anyone seen anything like this before?
Fish are fed 70% tetramin flake, 20% Shrimp pellet, 5% Algae wafer, 5% Dried bloodworm. Water changes are about 30% weekly. Aquarium info up to date.

Good morning EdnJean. How odd! I've never heard of anything like this before especially when the other fish seem to be helping him out. Is the sick fish swollen? Have you actually seen it poop recently.

Treatment for constipation: Blanch some frozen (boil a minute or two but not too long. You don't want them to turn into mush) "peas". Cut the peas in half and remove the skin. Peas act as a laxative. Don't use canned peas because of the salt and other additives.

Best of luck for a full recovery. Keep us posted.

Hi Ken and thanks for the response,

I don't think the Gourami is sick. He still eats ok, and yes, I have seen him poop, but it is bigger, ball type poop instead of slim worm type. Sorry to be so graphic when talking poop! But when I saw him poop, it was right after the Tetra's assistance.

I will monitor further.

Cheers

My fish get pea treats once a week to help keep things moving, most of them enjoy it.
Is it possible to get a pic in case it isn't constipation? Being sometimes there and sometimes not, might be a concern.

Morning Lucy. EdnJean I feed my fish peas once a week like Lucy. They do seem to enjoy it.
