Gourami compatibility with other Gourami

Hi all. First let me say that I am a relative newbie (6 months) and I love this site - everyone is so helpful.

My first tank (yep, I have MTS and plan on getting a larger one) currently has 3 Red Serpae Tetra -- I do plan on getting 2-3 more to make them more comfy -- and a Power Blue Dwarf Gourami.

I love, love, love the Gourami ...he's very relaxing to watch - so graceful and always doing something. He also seems to recognize me when I approach the tank he comes over and almost seems to "wag" his tail I know, he's probably just associating me with food but I like to think we have a connection . Also, he isn't shy and will come right to the top when I feed them (I bet he'd eat out of my hand).

Anyway, on to my question (sorry)...because I enjoy this one so much, I would like to get at another Gourami. While I would like to get him a "girlfriend" I don't really want to breed them so I don't know if getting a female is a good idea. However, I'm also leery about getting another male because I have heard that having two male Gouramis will make them territorial and more aggressive. Is this the case no matter which Gourami I got? Say I got another Dwarf Gourami but not the same exact same kind -- would my powder blue still be aggressive? Is it the species or the size that they respond to?

its a miss or hit with them...I have 3 dwarfs in the same tank...and use to have a large blue one...they are territorial...I would suggest taking out your handsome boy on the day you get another, rearrange his tank decorations, add the new ones first, then put your old one back in..as long as you have tank space, and lots of places to hide, they will live together...got any pics ?

Hmm, maybe I should wait until I get a larger tank. Or, maybe it would be okay to get a female Gourami of another kind. But, would they interact? I'm assuming they wouldn't breed, or am I wrong?

I just took and posted some pics of my Powder Blue Dwarf. http://www.fishlore.com/fishforum/me...f-gourami.html
