| another batch of buttons! I haven't really been paying much attention to my critters lately, it's been way too hot to do stuff outside, and I've been distracted...anyway I went out to check on them Saturday and there were five new baby button quail. I still have the three females (and one male) from the first batch of babies. The females are helping to tend the babies, and the male just kind of hangs out on the other side of the cage. Daddy is a really good daddy and Momma was very protective on Saturday. She kept trying to chase me away. I tried to get pics of her doing that today, but she wouldn't cooperate (of course). Anyway, here are pics and you should be able to see all five babies. One is all dark and the other four are dark and yellow mixes. |

| Oh I see. I want a bird now. My aunt is around 60 yrs old and she has decades of generations of white pigeons. I hope you have them for many years.
P.S. My other pets are only 2 turtles and 5 dogs. Couldn't hurt to add birds. My mom wants one. |

| I have zebra finches and the buttons are in the bottom of the aviary. I have had buttons for quite a while, but this is a new pair. The last ones I had died of old age (6-7 years old). I like the finches and quail because they are fun to watch, but are fairly quiet. I had a cockatiel for 17 years. I raised her from a new hatchling. She became egg bound and was to sick by the time I got home from work to save. My sister has lovebirds and I have hand raised a couple of them for her. One (Twitters) was a winter baby that would not have survived if left with Mom and Dad. He is 9 months old and still does not fly. He never will. His half sister (Kiah) was hatched 3-4 months later and was flying at the age of 1 month. |

| My cockatoo flew around the house and never got out. She would land on our hair and almost anywhere. One day she just flew away and the worse part is, there was a falcon or hawk outside. |

| Button quail can be kept as indoor pets. If you get them when they are very young and hand raise them (which is very easy as they eat on their own from day 1) they can become extremely tame. I just don't have any place inside to raise that many babies right now. |

| I do have 2 flight cages ..one for each bird...but I doubt either the p'let or the keet would allow them on the bottom of the cage. I also hear if they are startled the 'popcorn' and can break their necks, so I figure a flight cage in the middle of a busy living room would not be best for them...but dern they are cute things. |

| More pics of the baby quail - the first three pics are at 1 week of age and then two more pics from today - at 10 days old. They are already getting their wing feathers! They grow so so fast. The three adults in the pics are the daddy (he is the darkest adult), the mommy (she is the lightest adult) and big sister (looks a lot like mommy but with a darker head). Big sister has been helping to take care of this batch of babies so I did not sell her when I sold the rest of the first batch. |

| awwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww they're so darn cute. Makes me miss being on my folks' farm all those years. but they're just adorable I love love love when baby birds (we had ducks do this, of course!) find their first worm in freshly dug soil. Lol They're so proud of themselves as they gulp it down and then they get all intense as the look for another. It's way too cute. You got me all reminiscent now Gremiln. |
