Don't they get lonely without a mate? | If he was just in a cage all by himself, yes. Instead he is bonding with humans (mainly me). This way he will be a very loving family pet. My zebra finches, on the other hand, would not survive alone. They would need to be kept with at least two birds together. |

| | Moderator | Oh I see. How cute. I had just heard that they get lonely. I imagine you'd have to always be around? |

| | Fish Mentor | I am on disability and I am always home. I help my Mom around the house (she is 79). Since I am home all day, it works perfect for me to raise him. Once he is an adult, no you don't have to be home all day. He would be perfectly happy to have attention morning and evening each day. Right now, he naps for a couple of hours in the morning and again in the afternoon. Of course, he is still a growing baby and all babies do is eat, sleep, and poop. He's got it down perfect! |

| | Fish Mentor | And of course - after dinner he had to explore a bit. I put him in his little nest bowl and he didn't want to stay. He climbed out and was looking around. I put my hand down and he came running to my hand and climbed up in it to cuddle. It was pretty cute. |

| | Fish Keeper | He is absolutely adorable! It is amazing how quickly they grow, too.
What a sloppy eater! Too funny.
How do you clean him when he is done eating? |

| | Fish Mentor | Twitters got his first bath today. He was so messy after lunch today I just couldn't wipe it all off. I got a large shallow bowl and put a paper towel in the bottom so he wouldn't slide around. Put about 1/4 inch of warm water in the bottom and let him walk around in it for a while. He was very anxious to climb out and be cuddled after his bath. Sorry no pictures, I couldn't do the camera and handle him at the same time. He cuddled for a good hour before he was ready to climb around again. Then he used my fingers like a jungle gym - hanging upside down and climbing all over. He is in for a nap now. I think I wore him out... I'll try to get some more pictures of him walking around and playing. He is so much fun to watch. |

| | Fish Mentor | Update on Twitters. He is really growing fast. I can't believe it has only been 8 days since my sister brought him over with only pinfeathers! The pic of his back sitting on the pecan branches looks like an adult, but it is really Twitters! He still does not fly, although he sure get his wings flapping. And he still loves to burrow in his burlap ball/nest. He is starting to pick at a little bit of seed although his beak still is not strong enough to crack it. He does like his Fruity Rice Crispies though! And he chewed up his first weed...and he doesn't like tangelos. They may be too strong of a flavor for him. I'll try a bit of watered down orange juice in a day or two. |
