| Here is our Bo Handsome. My kids called him Rainbow when we got him home, but I changed it as he swam around his tank as the most handsome fish ever. He has tons of personality and get us laughing. He is a Blue/Red/Purple Crowntail. |

| My very first fish, a red butterfly Roundtail, Sweeney. I was looking for something red, just so I could call him Sweeney, and the butterfly pattern was just icing on the cake. He had such a personality, always racing around and flaring, with no "off" button to be seen. I lost him a couple of months ago when he choked to death on brine shrimp. I still miss him.
This is Leroidesanimaux (Lah-roy-des-ah-nih-moe), or Leroy for short. Name means "King of the Animals," which kind of suits him, appearance-wise, anyway. He's more shy, I can spend an hour with him and a mirror and I can't get him to flare. Recently, I got him to flare for the first time in probably 6 months when I put him in a jar and put him in another tank with a female-oops-its-a-male. He flared in indignation at the new guy, who just gave him the eagle eye and wandered away.
When I got into hobby, it was because my sister fishsat for her friend's Betta. I tried to do the good thing and give him a water change, but seeing as how this friend didn't give us any conditioner, the poor fish was gone the next morning (a classic 1oz container with no heat). I felt terrible for Dr Seuss, but the friend didn't care at all and went out and got another fish that day. That one was named Ed Gein, but Dr Seuss got me interested in the hobby and I began researching in earnest. Some months later when I already had a 60gal and two Bettas (the above two guys) in their own tanks, Ed Gein came by to be fishsat, and this one I managed to keep alive. Some more months later, the friend decided she couldn't take care of him anymore, and he was given to me. Many more months later, he was worn out (I think he was already pretty old, since he was HUGE, plus the stress of his earlier life), and he started fading. One morning he was gone. He was quite an ordinary fish, dark and dull, and I hate to admit that he wasn't a favorite, but he was a nice guy, and the neatest colors came out of him when I got out the camera (which didn't even have flash, so no colors were falsely affected) |

| When Sweeney died, I wasn't going to get another fish (not so soon, anyway) but the following weekend, I came across a doubletail female and since you NEVER see doubletails here, I had to snatch her up. And the girl-bug was born, lol. This is Monashee, which means Gentle Mountain.
Then I came across what was being sold as "Roundtail", but I could clearly see that it was a female, and she kept staring at me and won me over. So I went back a few days later, saw she was still there (but less lively) and took her home. Cost a whopping $19.87, too. She's rather dull (literally, no sparkle), and quite ordinary, but she recently cropped up with a fungus issue. I've been treating it with some melafix and pimafix and wouldn't you know it, a more lively side is coming out and she's much more interested in what's going on around her. Plus, I swear some sparkle is showing up in her scales. To "help" get her to become pretty and spicey, I named her Paprika, lol. Plus, it fits with her rusty red color.
Oh, did I mention that she's huge? Bigger than Ed Gein, so I call her the big momma of the group of girls. Nobody messes with her. She's calm and composed, nothing fazes her, but I guess the sight of her bulk slowly floating your way makes you lose all thoughts of mischief. She's a tonka truck, lol
This is who I'm tentatively naming Olive. Temperament-wise, she's nothing remarkable, just kind of goes with the flow. But last night, I noticed she's been hanging out a lot with Paprika, almost as if Paprika's her bodyguard. Why? Well, I bought another girl with her, and that girl has turned out to be a male plakat, and for some reason, he focuses all his flaring and peckering at her, rather than any of the other girls. Maybe she's realized the wisest fish to hang out with, lol. In the second pic, she's the greener one with the stress stripes.
The male plakat that was mistakenly sold as a female (oh, I remember once, early in the fish-days, mentioning how I dread the day I get a male instead of a female, because I just KNEW I wouldn't have an extra tank handy if that time came). This guy was named Sudoku because he's been a puzzle from the start. Didn't have stress-stripes when I got him home, even though he should have (I took him home in the cold, his container occationally clunking with Olive's, and we all took the bus). As much as I tried, I couldn't find that ovi spot. And he flared once or twice, but it would be too quick for me to catch a beard, so I hoped he was just a female flaring (because they do do that too). But I finally have proof that he is, indeed, a male. |

| Here is a picture of my brand new betta! I got him from a LFS that sells locally bred bettas. He's a halfmoon, and it looks like a rosetail as well. He doesn't have a name yet, any suggestions? |

| Such a pretty shade of blue! I'd think something tropical; Key West or Jamaica or something.
Here's Sir Elton, my first betta in at least three years. He's just so full of himself XD |

| Zoreta your betta is beautiful. He looks like he has fins of flame.
Thanks for all of the compliments you guys, my betta loved them! I took a bunch more photos of him. The quality isn't very good though, he's camera shy and I'm no photographer. xD As for a name I was thinking of Roatan. It's an island...I don't know. I would name him Poseidon, but I think that's a little cheesy. :P
I want to say that as soon as I saw him in the fish store I knew that he was the betta I wanted, but they also had some gorgeous red dragons that were hard to pass up. |

| Here are two of my female rescues from Walmart. I have only had them for a little over 2 weeks and their coloring is really starting to come out finally. They were both brown when I bought them. They are only about an inch long right now. |

| I bought some ghost shrimp for my puff and was holding them in the betta tank untill it was dinner time...well someone's not a very nice host.
Here's him flaring at his one of them (shrimp top left).
The annoying thing, he didn't even eat them! He has killed three so far and has brought back their bodies to his cave and stacked them in the center. Trophies. Last edited by jgon_; February 28th, 2009 at 04:59 PM.

| I don't post much, but I'm a serious lurker and I felt this overwhelming need to post pictures of my new Betta, Boris, or as my boyfriend calls him "the metal Betta." I was totally not in the market for a Betta right now, but as you all know, you just kinda can't resist the little guys. Anyway, the pictures! |
