Koi betta???

I was browsing to kill some time and came across this male...OMG!?! I haven't exactly been into bettas forever but have never seen one quite like this! I showed it to Mom and she said" What would you even breed him with except a sibling??" I am not looking to buy him really, but it just made me wonder what kind of genetic soup this awesome looking guy must be from! I love his color! I found one that was kind of similar, but at the same time, not even close..I just had to share this unique fellow!

BTW: MM...WTG on that GORGEOUS green boy!!!

The Koi Bettas will not breed true even when bred to a sib....His conformation is also incorrect....His edges are far too rounded.....I do agree though, it is a striking pattern!

Thanks on the green boy...I knew he was nice but didn't expect a bidding war lol..Only reason he is for sale is becuase there is not really a class to show him in......

I agree on his form MM, on the whole I am not at all impressed with finnage or shape and really don't like the shape of his vents either, I just love the color! I have never seen it before and thought it was very interesting. Wish it bred true though...that would be an interesting line to try and develop on my own..

That green boy though...WOW! He is absolutely stunning! If I was looking at all to buy any more he would have been the one! I have no plans to add any more stock or do any breeding at all until this illness has been cleared up for at least a few months though..

Definitely an interesting look to him
Can see why he wouldn't breed true though. With that many oddball genes most of them would have to be recessive....

They do not usually keep that coloring either sad to say. I wanted a koi colored betta so badly and when I got one and paid a fortune for the little guy and he was gorgeous. I brought him home and fed him good quality food and now he is a chocolate through and through. the coloring changes and the patterns will disappear as the gene is recessive and he will become some other coloration when he settles in I am betting. I know the pic is a small one but my koi is in my avatar and he is chocolate brown now from tip to tail. Pretty but not what I bought.

Rose is 100% correct....Any marble pattern (which that fish is) is going to change for the 1st year and they usually end up solid....

I was pretty sure this coloring was another manifestation of the wonderful marble gene! I love the marbles, but in the case of these amazing color-change fish, I wouldn't buy one just because I liked the color..I would have to focus on the form and finnage.. but still..cool looking color on this guy! He reminded me of Confetti...well a little bit!
