Anyone with the Tetra (2-15) Heater??

Hi

So, I've had the Tetra 2-15 Heater since I set up the new 5gal tank! (Word to all: I'd return it if it wasn't too late. Isn't doing wonders for me )

It's the heater where it's preset to supposedly be 78 +/- 2 (plus or minus two)

After being unsatisfactory and only being around 76 degrees and not going higher, it suddenly decides to go berserk and start raising the temp. ALL of a sudden...

Normally it's at 76, but as I check the tank every so often, it keeps rising to 77, 78, and right now currently 78.5
Hopefully it will stop overnight, but I'm just worried in case it won't.

I did a water change at around 1PM? And now it's about 10:50PM, if that helps with how much it's risen. I don't know if it was a constant rise or anything.

... I really just want a new heater. (But I can't drive. Nor do I have money. ... or supportive parents lol )

What could be wrong? It's completely submerged, and it's only 1month old.
And I don't want cooked bettas in the morning!

Hello Snoopy and Welcome to FishLore. Most members dont suggest the preset heaters. They can act random like that. Though it should stop heating the tank now that it is up to tempature. Keep your eye on it though you never know.

Thank you

I actually didn't have my mind set on this heater. My dad went ahead to take my brother to basketball practice, this being when I was still setting up the tank, and said "...Do you want a heater?" "YES." Ta-da. Preset heater. I'll be sure not to make the same mistake again though. It's just..too late.

I haven't had any problems with one that I have in a Kritter Keeper. However two others I bought, I had to return because they malfunctioned.

Lucy, was it just a super random malfunction? Or were they kinda old / seemed used, etc ?

They were new from box.
One started working fine. I went to bed, by morning it had stopped working and the temp dropped.
The other just didn't work at all out of the box.

I won't buy another.
"Seemed new" is kind of interesting. I wondered if they would just restock them.

Yeah I'm worried mine is used actually. I just remembered that. The box was not very..perfect. It was kinda bent at the opening? My dad did say he opened it in the car. Then told me it was like that when he bought it (it was the last one).

Yes...stuff at wal-mart "seems new" quite often. For these kind of stuff at least.

I found out why the temperature is slowly rising.

It's the house. I guess I never realized until now, but it's EXCRUTIATINGLY hot in Texas right now. (And it's February...)

I guess there's a new problem now. How should I keep the tank cool without having temperature fluctuations?

And according to the weather, Monday shall be very cold. And Tuesday shall be quite freezing.

Texas, home to the bipolar weather.

dont worry, ur not the only one who cant find good conditioned boxes at walmart >.< i had to DIG to find a good 10-30 heater and a 2-10 (?) filter! they need to keep some boxes for people to open and look st the stuff inside, so that people dont open EVERY SINGLE ONE!! -rage-rage-rage- one of the only things i hate about walmart (besides poor fish care and lack of cash registers being opened....)

I had to laugh at this!

I just bought the same heater last night (the previous heater I had was not only possessed and wouldn't shut off, so it raised the tank temperature into the low 90s if I wasn't careful, but it also shattered ). It took a while to warm up the tank, but it's been doing a good job keeping up with keeping the temp level. My house heater isn't working right now, so my ambient air temperature is about 54F right now. Arizona is having bipolar weather as well. Yesterday it was snowing and cold...today it's sunny and already in the mid-50s. :P
