Something of Intrest.

Ok...your all going to shoot me...but I bought some Cory Cats from my two bettas tanks. Theres two in each....XD I wanted something with a little more movement to the tank and its also purked up my Bettas. They have not shown any aggression to the cory cats. Sherlock flared at them once but thats been about it. Sherlock likes to swim back and forth the front of his tank and the corys will fallow him its funny. But so far its been 24 hours...and everyone is happy. The Corys are the peppered ones. I know a little big for my tanks but both Sherlock and Plato get 10gal upgrades soon I'm excited XD. I just wanted to ask what other fish people have had sucess in keeping with their bettas. I also have a snail in each tank so I know they are fine. But what have you all managed to keep in with your bettas that you wouldn't think was possbile?

I would still keep a close eye on things. I very briefly had a betta with a few cories, and while everything seemed ok at first, aggression reared its ugly head a few days later.

I do wish you luck though with yours; and that you have peaceful bettas!

They seem peaceful. Well at least to the snails and when I do my water changes. I handle all my fish by hand the will willing swim to my hand and let me pick them up when its time to WC. So they seem like pretty good guys. Their on my desk where my laptop is. So im watching them like a hawk lol.

I keep thinking of the idea.

I think one of my bettas would be ok with it, the other one NO WAY !!!

He doesn't like anything or anybody.

I've kept bettas with snails, shrimp, a platy, pygmy cories, and harlequin rasboras without issue. It depends completely on the individual personality of the betta as to whether it will work. Keep an eye on things and have a backup plan in place should things start to go south.

Yeah got a 1gal tank set up to hold them in incase of an emergency. If that happens I'll either take them back or put them in my 10gal tank.

The fact that your fish will let you handle them is wonderful.
The trust and faith they must have in you. I have a trusting rapport with a few of my bettas, Palamedes will swim straight into the net on command and he will let me hold him in my hand but not out of the water.
What an amazing bond.

I have some bettas that are fine with community tanks..and i have some , boys/girls that would tear up a fake fish if they had the chance..whenever adding fish to betta tanks, it can be a risk....even months down the road...so having a backup plan as harpua suggested, is ALWAYS best when doing any additions with bettas....but i do worry about handling fish....it removes their slime coat and can cause other infections so make sure thats not done often....even if they are kept underwater, it isnt good for them....good luck hope things continue to stay cool!

I'd keep an eye out for the cories. Do you have any caves in your tank? If you do, the cories might take shelter there at night and the betta won't have to see them all the time. Maybe that'll help.

Lol Plato is a male betta with woman qualitys as I like to say. He actually uses his cave to sleep in at night. Sherlock on the other hand doesnt he sleeps on one of his plants. Its funny in a way. But the Corys in Platos tank seem to be fine Plato doesnt even pay attention to them hes more intrested in me and my laptop...lol. But I do have several back up plans. And my 10gal that my Oranda is in...(I know I know its to small) Well shes getting herself a 30gal tank soon all to her self....XD Im so exctited. But I said that to say once she is out of my ten gallon I will have it reset up with some smaller type of fish...no idea what though.

Plato sounds like he has cute habits, watching you and the laptop and sleeping in the cave. What a darling! Got any pics or vids of him doing this?

I keep a school of cory's in a tank with my betta. He doesn't have a problem with them at all. In fact when I feed bloodworms to the tank he dives right into their school to steal food from them.

Lol Sherlock likes to eat the alge wafers. But lately its been a "war of the alge wafer" Between my corys and Watson the snail. Its so funny. Watson will take his whole body and wrap around the alge wafer while the cories try to steal little bits of it. Then once Watson gets his fill he leave the wafer alone. The cories in Platos tank though...are fighting with a giant. Homer...is huge, and him and Watson I got only a week apart but Homer is twice the size of Watson. Their both mystery snails and both eat the same. But the cories in Platos tank dont even swim near Homer..lol. Ill try to get a video of Plato up sometime soon.

Keep an eye for nipped fins and such on the cories, some fish will just bully them to no end. The really are great fish, and very peaceful themselves, but you know how bettas can be.
