do bettas like bigger tanks!?

This week im purchasing my beautiful red crowntail betta a 2.5gallon but thought about getting a 10 gallon instead. I've heard many times that bettas PREFER smaller tanks? is this true? I would rather get a 2.5gallon if hes not going to move and make room of the 10 gallon! Thanks alot! (btw video of him under freshwater videos, thread named...feeding my 10 gallon puffers, betta, and community tank)

I keep my betta in a 10g tank and he absolutely loves it. I have a video of him zooming around the tank like a bullet. One sec and I'll try and find the link...

Ok, here it is:

I think bettas prefer larger tanks, but nothing too large. They aren't the best swimmers, and they need to frequently go to the top for air, so putting a betta in say a 29g tall tank would not be wise. But a 5g tank, a 10g tank, they really do love them as you can see from the video.

Bettas love a great 5-10g planted tank IMO. They enjoy a lot of hiding places A 2.5 gal is fine but very hard to clean and gets dirty very fast. So a 5 or 10g is advisible. Good luck!

If you can get the 10 gallon, for sure get it. Your betta will be much happier and so will you be, you will get more action from him and be entertained yourself.
If you do get the 10 gallon, be prepared that you will want to add more fish to the tank. Be VERY careful here, most people will tell you not to add more fish to a betta tank. The stocking for a tank with a Betta is very very limited.

A 10 gallon for a betta is great I have my girl Arya in a 10 gallon by herself and she loves it! Just make sure you have some tall plants for cover so that your betta doesn't feel too exposed. Its amazing how much more active they are in big tanks. Martinismommy even had a boy in a 55 gallon by himself for a long time (talk about a spoiled betta). IMO, the only people that say bettas prefer tiny tanks are people who have only kept bettas in tiny tanks

As the Boy's get older they may require some extra TLC and a smaller tank helps. However young betta's in their prime love tanks of any size. I've got Betta's in everything from 2.5- 10 gals and they love them all. However the 2.5's are higher maintainence.

I think 5-10 gallon, preferably with lots of plants and things to keep them amused...........
