Hi Guys,

I went out of town this weekend to visit my sister and got home this afternoon. When I came home, I turned on the light in Kawaii's tank and couldn't find him anywhere. The dreaded thought that maybe he had jumped out of the tank crossed my mind, and sure enough I found him on the floor behind my nightstand. The tank has a gap in the back that is only about a centimeter wide, and I never thought he would be able to fit through it. I feel awful He was such a sweet boy and I loved him so much. When I found him I just broke down crying. RIP sweet boy

So sorry to hear... these things happen, and you couldn't have known he would possibly fit. You gave him a good life, and rest assured he doesn't blame you for what happened. Accidents happen. My friend just lost some fish to the same thing...

aww so sorry to hear of your loss Nothing worse than a silly sucidal fishy I have had that happen to me I now cover any gaps in my betta tanks with plastic canvas cut to size...

Thanks so much everyone. I was so sad to lose him, and it was so unexpected which I think made it harder.

Shell, thanks for the advise about the plastic canvas. I'll go ahead and cover it today so that my next betta will know to stay IN the tank.

Thanks you guys It was especially hard when it happened because my husband was gone on a business trip all week (got back last night) so I was all alone when I found him. I know that there was nothing I could have done though. I guess he just got curious about life outside of his little 5 gallon tank, lol.

<hugs> Traveler did the same thing to me a few weeks ago... I've fixed the tank to make sure he can't again but now I'm worring over my new girl since she only has 1/2 a lid.
