crowntails do seem to have an extra bit of fire in them. mickey is quite the little flarer and often misses his food being to aggressive in attacking it. should the plants not work, i think a bubble wand laid right in front of the divider with a good airflow might do the trick.
I'm sure Neptune misses TK in his own way.. they are territorial, but i think at some level form bonds.

Dave I noticed there is still some film on the water on Wink's side. Would an airstone make a difference ( I have a couple ), would a foam filter ( I would have to order it)? The azoo just won't fit into the spot. even with the punch out, it is too wide. All of the water is beautifully clear and he seems happy as a clam, but I would feel better getting that film off. There is none on TK's side - that is where the big filter is.
Thanks. Val

Re: Divided Tank Question
hi Val
could that film be residue of the package of bio spira that you dumped in on friday? Im surprised that your getting a film on the other side of the divider that doesnt have the filter. Like you I have the 10g divided with one filter going and havent noticed any film on the oppisite side of the filter. So I am wondering if it started after you used the full bag of bio spira and can it be residue from that? And you mean that the azoo palm filter didnt fit the cover? Im planning on buying two of them, and if they wont fit inside the cover, I dont want it!! OHhh also.. does your divider have the little holes in it so that the water can go through? Is it the penn plax brand?

Re: Divided Tank Question
Hi Kate...I bought 3 dividers to ensure I could get one that fit two of them are Pen Plax the other ia AQ2. I used the Pen Plax. It fits perfectly into the tank, and I have the bottom secured in the substrate.
My 10g tank is Regent ( or something) but made by Marineland. The filter came with it, the canopy, lights, etc. Everything but substrate and heater. The filter is also by Marineland, sits on the outside of the tank on the right side. Where the outflow is, I have put a piece of fibre floss to lessen the flow, but I have to be careful, since that also makes some water back up and come out the intake section. I don't think that is a big deal.
The left back side of the tank had about a 2 1/2 inch punch out spot. We tried the Azoo first on the left side ( Wink's side) but if it sits on the edge, the canopy only goes down about half way. Hubby said he could cut out a bigger piece of plastic next to the punch out, but then I remembered I had bought these two Whisper Internal filters on sale just to have as backup. We tried the first one, which is model 3i, for 1-3 gallon tanks. It did put a good dent in the film, but not all of it is gone. The hole is also not big enough for the Whisper Internal filter ( 3-10g) that I bought. So I thought if I could get a foam filter, that might help
Don't know if it could be from the Bio Spira, I don't think so, cuz I didn't notice it until yesterday, Maybe it just needs a little more time.
I am doing a 25% water change tomorrow, and adding the plant(s) I got today, so that will also help. Could be from the StressTherapy I put in on Monday too. By the way, these plants are very neat. I thought it was one single tall strand, but there are 4 -5 tall plants hooked to the base that gets set into the substrate, and then a clip at the top to hook over the side of the tank, or in my case, over the divider. So the plants are actually all hooked both top & bottom. I think these will do the trick and help slow down the flaring. They are meant to put at the back of the tank to hide the filters, heaters, etc. Here is the link, again from F&S.

I am kinda screwed cuz I need to order everything , well, until I make another trip to my sisters, or to Duluth at the end of the month. I will do some photos tomorrow, hopefully.
As previously posted TK is a juvenile delinquent........instigator........bed boy..........devil spawn..LOL
Oh, yes there are holes through the divider so water is flowing through.....If I get too many plants in there to sheild these two guys from each other, there won't be room to swim!! If this doesn't work, I will try the air stone/line thingee that Dave suggested, and I can get that locally.

Hi Val
I also bought the whisper 3i for the 2.5 gal tank. Being an internal filter I hated the way it took up room in that small tank. I didnt like the 'flub flub flub.." noise that it makes either. That is why I changed to the aquaclear HOB filter which btw fits most hoods. Its fit every tank Ive had and they all have different hoods, even one very old fashioned hood! lol..
Remember if you go the route of using a bubble wand in front of the divider like I did, get the heavy air stone wand and not the sponge one that uses suction cups to attach. Since you arent attaching to glass like you would on the sides it wont stick to the divider. I tried.... didnt work and the sponge was more expensive than the stone wand. The stone wand is heavy enough to sit in front of the divider.
I love plants!!!!.... cant wait to get some more for Precious's tank. And she needs some decoration like a castle or something. Im heading out to some yard sales in a little while and hopefully can find something for her.
have fun decorating the tank!! ~ kate

yea, an airstone will help create surface agitation to break that up.

Re: Divided Tank Question
I did the 25% water change this morning, and moved plants around, and added the background plant ( which has 3 not 5 plants as I said before) hooked that onto the divider. I got a large leafed one, and Wink is happy as a clam. TK on the other hand, finds the tiniest spot where he can see through to go glare at Wink! ( " I know you are in there Jack Sparrow - show yourself, be a man"!! LOL ( Things are getting to me!!)
As far as aesthetics go, I would rather of had it on the back, but it is doing the trick at this point.
The water change removed the film, and I have only added Vita Chem, so will wait to see if it comes back. But for now, we are all happy campers.
I have heard from Rose via email and she set my mind to rest about the Bio Spira - I - well Wink and TK- am/are cycled!!!!! Ha, ha, ha........... ....
don't ya think that laughing emoticon looks psycho ?
Val ---now go buy Bio Spira............means more fish faster!!! ( also psycho )

Re: Divided Tank Question
It was late and I was still packing, but thought to take a few pics of the divider. Speaking of psycho........Wink Jack Sparrow has ADD for sure. Never stops, the only pics I could get of him he is just this blur flying throught the photo..LOL
however, you get the main idea. They have settled down as far as the flaring, well mostly.....TK swims around with all of his fins out most of the time, every 5th round he has to go to the divider and then does a full flare. Sometimes Wink isn't even there............when I look through from the side of the tank, all you can see is some blue fins going by on the other side. I know now for sure that TK is a real rebel rouser!!
Kate, the glass (?) of celebratory wine comes out tonight ( re cycling). What a stress reducer Bio Spira is!!! Talk to you all on Mon night or Tuesday.
Val Also pics of the new caves.........

Thanks, guys!! I came home tonight and couldn't find Wink, and low and behold, he was in between the plants and the divider!! Such a tease!! They are going strong, and one day, maybe TK won't have to keep showing off those fins!!
The celebratory glass (es) of wine re the "cycling"----- ya, that was nice!!

Re: Divided Tank Question
Would the plastic mesh divider idea work for a 20g long? Or should I simply buy a commercial divider for it? Since my husband's cichlids are being moved to a 22g, we now have a 20g long that I'm staking my claim on, lol. I'd like to divide it and put my male CT on one side, then maybe purchase another male for the other half. We have plenty of live plants (cryptocoryne, they took over soon after we bought 7 tiny bundles), so I think I can make a decent 'plant curtain' so the males won't see each other.

Re: Divided Tank Question
Mind if I move this to the DIY section? The betta section is starting to become really full of stickies.

A lot of people use divided tanks for Bettas so I think the info should stay so any newbies can get the information they need.

Re: Divided Tank Question
OK, I sort of disagree, but I respect your opinion. I think it is a really valid topic, but so are so many others. I do think the betta section needs a bit of tidying up with all the stickies. But leaving this one or removing it won't really change the state of affairs that much, so if more people want to keep it, then the voice of the people wins!
