Mouth Brooding Betta's

Well folks "Gouramiguy" guessed the new type of fish I have now. I have gotten captured by the Mouth Brooding betta Species!!. The male holds the eggs in his mouth until the wigglers are too large and able to fend for themselves.

They do not make bubble nests, and have evolved in streams here bubble nests would be ruined. The spawning procedure is very similar to Betta Splendens except he keeps the eggs instead of spitting them into the bubble net.

I have Betta Channoides and Betta Dimidiata.

And no pics yet, as they are young and not too well colored.

These types are species. Hydridization is frowned upon...they are in endanger of disappearing thru developement and some are already banned. It is a shame. The hope of most keepers is to keep them pure and not develope "fancies" with them.

From Indonesia, Borneo, etc.
