Thanks everyone! If he pulls through, he may be staying with me. My mother seems to think with his health issues, he's better off in a heated filtered tank (which I agree with) as opposed to the betta bowl he was kept in. She can't keep the temperature constant, even if she increases the number of water changes she does.

bb, your amaazing he has had a faboo few weeks with you and i hope for even more recovering..and bless your mom for doing whats best for him..bowls and cups just arent ideal as we all know and a steady temp is most important as you have found with him...we can clean our water daily but the temps changing really make a huge difference in their lives.....maybe a nice 2.5g heated tank with a new betta baby would be a good xmas pressie for her? thanks for being so awesome to the lil man and all my prayers for his easy life with you are coming your way!!!!!!

Thanks, Shawnie He's such a sweetie! I'm hoping he pulls through, even though he is an old geezer, at least he's not a grumpy one

UPDATE: After much soul-searching, I medicated him Thursday with Maracyn Plus. I know it wasn't recommended, but he wasn't active at all, even though he was eating, so I followed my gut instinct. It was an unusual instinct since I hate to medicate, so I decided I better follow it.

He's become much more active, although the popeye hasn't gone down, his activity level says he's back "in the battle". He's also coming up to eat at feeding time instead of waiting for it to fall down to him and eating it an an hour or two, so I consider that another excellent sign. Fins are still crossed, we're not out of the woods yet, but things are looking much better than they have in the last two weeks. He's also gaining back some of his color that he'd lost.

My father is totally amazed that he's still with us.

I'm a firm believer in following our instincts, and again it seems to have proved the right thing to do. I've been avidly following this thread, and I'm so pleased he's improved some. What a lucky boy he is to be with you BB, and don't you hesitate to follow your gut, I believe it's how we hear what the universe is telling us is needed. With the love and good energy being sent his way from all over the world, and you to care for him in the best way possible, he's got to be in with a fighting chance. And if not, you've done a beautiful thing by making him comfortable and giving him lots of love.

Thank you all He's a good boy and once again, he was out and about this morning Dose 2 is today and I feel much better about it since he handled dose 1 so well.

I hope my mother realizes what a special boy she has in him. He is a doll and I've fallen head over heels in love with him since he's been here. My heart is going to break when he goes back to her, but it'll be at least another week. At least he'll only be about 10 minutes away, so I'll be having more "Blue Pearl" visits from now on. I don't think I've ever come across a betta with so much heart and fight in him.

Thanks, Lucy! My mother said when she gets him back, she's going to keep him in the 5 gallon tank I have set up for him! I'm soooo happy! I didn't have to nag her or anything, I think she's just really happy that he's improving!
