Settiing up a Betta tank

I thinking of setting up either a 10 or 20 gal tank for a betta. I want to put a few corry's maybe a couple of Otto's and a few kuli loaches. Any thoughts?

It may sound silly but, once you get a 10 g, you will want a 20 very shortly there after. The 20 will cost more at first, but the ten will seem very small after you start filling it up. Depending on the type of betta you get, I know for a fact that corys work well with a betta. The important part is that you have a back up plan in case the betta doesn't work with the other fish you put in the tank.

The 20 gallon may be more expensive, but after I bought my 20 gallon and I was at my LPS looking at the tanks I was like, "wow is that REALLY how big a 10 gallon is?"

The 20 is better because it can house more fish and a larger bioload and the bigger the tank the better the stability is. Also, the more space you have for your betta the better. Betta go well with cories and otos, but I'm not sure about the loaches as I have no idea about loaches in general. Just in case has some sort of back-up for your betta, like Ags said.

IMO, go for the 10g for your betta.
If you get a 20, you might be tempted to add more fish, most of whom shouldn't be housed with a betta.

You can try cories, not all bettas will tolerate them. Otos might work also, but they'll do better in a well established tank.
Like the others have said, always have a back up plan.
Here's our Betta Care Guide

Best of luck which ever you decide on

Hello Flotus. Best of luck with which ever you choose. I'm sure you'll make either the 10 or 20g tank a great home for your Betta. I hope you can share some photos once you're all set up.
Best wishes!
Ken

I think I'll stay with the 10 gal. I only wanted to add a few fish to keep the Betta company. I hate seeing the poor things in the bowl at the fish store.

A betta and a school of cories would look nice Make sure to have loads of hiding places and a backup plan as the posters above mentioned in case of any signs of aggression. Good luck!
