| I would love.. ..to house a male betta and a school of cories! I have a 29 gallon tank and was hoping that would be enough room for the both of them? and if anyone else has suggestions for another tank mate for the betta besides the corydoras? I've heard of tetras or dwarf frogs doing well together. |

| Personally, I wouldn't recommend you try anything with your betta except possibly the cories, otos or maybe a snail.
ADF's are a possibility, I've heard of that combo working sometimes, sometimes not.
A lot depends on the bettas personality.
Tetras can be nippy, imo, it's not worth the risk. Either they can find the bettas fins irresistible or the betta can be territorial.
Have a back up plan what ever you decide to do.
Good luck! |

| thanks for the advice! I'm going to have to think about it more because I'm pretty indescisive and not sure if I should shoot for a community tank or just the bettas and cories. This is my first tank sooo just not too sure yet! |

| It's so hard to decide isn't it?
Thats how many of us end up with so many tanks. lol
Why not do a community tank with your 29g and pick up a 5 or 10g tank for a betta?
The only compnay they usually like is from us anyway. lol |

| Yes it is! I've actually thought about that too but financially I'm kinda struggling to get just this one 29g tank going, let alone another one I'm 19 and paying for everything lol so that's why I'm thinking so hard about it..
if i were to get the betta afterall, is this ok for them? http://www.petsmart.com/product/inde...3&clickid=cart
i have that and some home depot pea sized gravel in there right now, thats about it. eventually I'll put up the aquaclear power filter soon too. |

| I'd agree with Lucy on turning your 29g into a community tank You could have tetras and a gourami perhaps? Maybe get those tanks that come in a set at your LFS. (sorry I don't live in US but have heard a lot of members getting cool tank sets) You could get several 5 gals for new bettas, depending how much your budget is. Best of luck and hope to see photos of your tank along the way. |

EDIT: they want the betta lol | IMO, You could sit down with them, talk to them about the options and let them know that a betta would do nicer in a 5-10 gal tank where you won't have to worry so much about tank mates and waste of space. Keep us updated! |

| definately make sure you have a back up plan for the betta just in case it doesn't work. I have one betta at home that is in a 25 gallon tank with 3 corys and a bunch of snails and it is my favorite tank. The betta follows the corys around but never chases them or nips them so it works great. They have all been in together for 2 years now. But at the same time. My new betta that I have here at school, attacks everything in the tank. I had to take out all of the snails after a couple of hours because he was biting off their antennas. So with some it works and some it doesn't. Just keep an eye on everyone! |

| Why not divide the tank to house two bettas, maybe even three? You'll find a stickied link on this forum about creating cheap dividers |

| Hello!
Female bettas are just as agressive as the males. Although there are a few members who DO keep females together, they have to be sisters from the same spawn, and sometimes they dont even get along. I tried a sorority tank once, it was ok, but only because they were sisters and were still young. Most girls wont get along IMO.. |

If I still remember, it was a 10 gal tank where I housed about 6 females. I provided plenty of hiding places and had no trouble at all. But the catch is, like Tony said, they have to be in the same family, like sisters. I bought mine in the same tank, same shop, so maybe that's the reason why I had no fights? |

| I don't see why the betta would take issues with corys. There are lots of fish that can be mixed with bettas, but there are super aggressive ones that may not so have a backup plan. |

| Yea I don't even wanna shoot for the aggressive ones, If i do get the betta it will only be the females or the male/cories |

| But on the other hand, my red is the most passive fish I know! He was in a divided tank and turned his nose up in disgust when he caught sight of another male trying to get him through the divider. He keeps himself to himself and is a little sweetheart.
But then again, my fish are all a little weird and prefer to go against their stereotypes.
But thanks for that Jaysee, I never knew that before, I will keep an even closer eye on him in case he is acting sweet for my benefit and just not biting the hand that feeds him so to speak...
Good luck with the tank mibro, sounds like you're going to have a lot of fun with it anyway and bettas are great for a bit of colour and flair |
