help feeding betta and other tank mates

Hi,

I have just put my new betta in my tank with 6 harlequins... they are not being hostile towards one another which is good :-) my only problem is how to feed my betta the exact diet he needs which was

monday - betta pellets
tuesday bloodworms
wednesday daphnia
thursday pea
friday pellets
saturday daphnia
sunday off

bloodworms and daphnia will be fine for the harlequins to share with hiim but only once a week. also the betta pellets are only designed for bettas as well as the pea for digestion. is it best to put some flakes in first for them and then sprinkle food for my betta. thanks

you cant target feed in a community tank..hes going to eat whatever you feed the entire tank...as well as the tank is going to eat whatever you feed him ..a betta in a community tank will sometimes have major issues with constipation as they are total pigs when its feeding time..
aggression can show up immediately, or even months down the road...so please keep a very close eye on things with him

ok,so i am jus tgoing to have to do something on the lines of

monday bloodworm
tuesday daphina
wednesday mixture of betta pellets and flakes
thursday pea
friday pellets and flakes
saturday frozen fruit cubes (bought from LFS)
sunday off

will 2 lots of daphina a week upset the harlequins? also a pea should help keep them in check as well. thanks for the quick reply shawnie, ever helpful! :-)

No, you're still on topic.
Careful with all the freeze dried food, too much can cause bloat.
I feed my bettas 4-6 pellets in the morning and 4-6 (depending on the size) thawed frozen blood worms at night. Usually I give peas once a week and sometimes they get thawed frozed brine shrimp instead of blood worms.

right i can understand that about the freeze dried food. how much is ok twice a week? i do have to try and match it with a harlequin diet as well. But i know already from feeding them that the harlequins dive in straight away so if i sprinkle them some falkes then put betta pellets in after it might work? i do tend to feed them a live food treat once a week normally water fleas. Just want to set up a routine really :-) looked into breeding brine shrimp but looked like would cost more than i thought

antbfc is there a reason you put the betta in a community tank? the food list of dried foods , even with the pea once a week, is going to probably constipate him badly....not to mention theres no way those harlequins are going to have that food all gone before he gets some..bettas need way less food than the other fish and one way or another, someone is going to go without or be overfed

so is there no way it could possibly work? i just enjoye dhow they looked together thats all :-( i thought aggression woul dbe the only issue but as thats fine i thought everything was ok. Food does seem it could be a problem now then, if there isnt i may have to look into putting the harlequins in my community tank
